The latest software release from ISV Alert POS is designed to return the point of sale to its roots. In a recent interview for a story in our sister publication, Business Solutions magazine, Alert POS founder Brad Jarrett stressed that the original cash register was designed first and foremost to secure assets. Even the charming ring of the register’s bell was a security feature designed to alert store staff that the cash drawer was open and cash was exposed.
Jarrett argues that the advent of the PC-based POS at once revolutionized central retail systems while ushering in an era of ancillary customer-facing applications that detracted developers from the original mission of the device—to secure currency.
With its release last month, Alert POS brought loss prevention back to front-and-center of the POS experience. The company is leveraging some sophisticated technology to do so. For starters, Jarrett devised a means of linking real-time store events and floor plans to 911 dispatch centers—and even to the laptops in police cars—without requiring any application integration with 911 or law enforcement computing systems. The hyper cloud-driven idea has won the praise of law enforcement officials from municipal levels to the Department of Homeland Security.
Then Jarrett threw drones into the mix.
