Innovative Retail Technologies caught up with Hedgie Bartol, business development manager for retail at Axis Communications, about Security-as-a-Service and whether it is beneficial to retailers of all sizes. Bartol addresses cloud-based security and how secure it really is.
IRT: Is Security-as-a-Service beneficial to all retailers regardless of size? Why or why not? Please explain.
Bartol: Yes, even in large installations with many cameras can benefit from have critical video content stored securely in the cloud. This especially important for retailers who have extremely high value products or need to keep server rooms PCI compliant. Locations with low camera counts can also leverage Security-as-a-Service (SAAS). In fact, as bandwidth continues to increase, the camera counts per location can begin to increase.
